Kintsugi HOPE

12 Week Kintsugi Course

In the UK if we break a bowl we throw it away or mend it with superglue, hiding the cracks in order to pretend it was never broken.

However, In Japan when a pot gets broken they put a gold powder in the glue, so instead of hiding the cracks, they make a feature of them so that the object becomes more beautiful for being broken.

And this art form is called Kintsugi.

And this is the word that is used for the 12 week Kintsugi Wellbeing Course that we are running starting in January.

The belief being that beauty can come from discovering treasure in life’s scars – not to be ashamed of but part of our story.

The vision of Kintsugi Hope is to see a world where emotional health is understood and accepted with safe and supportive communities for people to grow and flourish.

Although it is the Church community that are leading the way with hundreds of churches running and planning to run Kintsugi courses throughout the UK.

Everyone is welcome.

This is a programme for everyone - people of all ages, faiths, beliefs, sexual orientation and cultures.

We all know of the demands of modern living and they are taking their toll on our wellbeing. In the present world which we live in more people are suffering from mental and emotional anxiety.

However, often when asked how we are, we often respond with I’m fine as we don’t want to burden others and often want to pretend that it is not happening.

How many times does that voice in our head make us feel we are Not Good Enough.

Not smart enough,

Not attractive enough,

Not thin enough, not intelligent enough,

Not brave enough,

Not confident enough – the list goes on.

And of course we know that social media doesn’t help as all around us we are seeing photos of people that seem to have it all.

On adverts, on Facebook, TicTok, Instagram,  pictures seeing happy smiling faces and people seeming to have perfect lives.

And then we start comparing ourselves and thinking we are not good enough.

Social media never tells the full story.

Everyone goes through challenges in their lives and this is a programme to help navigate through these times.

This 12 week course is a safe and confidential place for a group of 12 people,  to strengthen our resilience, courage and wellbeing.

Our next course is starting on Thursday 4 January 2025 – one group in the morning and one in the evening for 2 hours.
